January 27th is Bell ‘Let’s Talk’ day in Canada. It’s an attempt to support those who suffer from mental health issues. Shakespeare wrote in his play, Richard II, ‘Let us sit upon the ground and tell sad stories of the deaths of kings.’
Well, here’s my sad story…
All my adult life, I’ve suffered from depression. Severe depression, to the point of being suicidal. I went to therapy (not helpful), I tried all of the various anti-depressant drugs, from Paxil to Wellbutrin to... whatever. But again, not helpful. Actually, the side effects of the drugs were worse than the depression itself! I put my wife and children through hell as I struggled to come to grips with negative feelings that I was helpless to control.
Then about eight years ago, I read a book called ‘Natural Cures They Don’t Want You to Know About,’ by Kevin Trudeau. The book was mostly common sense; stuff I already knew. However, one thing the author kept repeating throughout the book was, ‘eat organic food.’ So I decided to accept his advice. My wife and I searched and found a source for organic food, and we changed our diet over.
Within three weeks, I was 100% depression free! Now I’m no doctor, but that sounds to me like a chemical purge. It’s my contention that there was something in regular food that was triggering my depression. I have no idea what that could be, but whatever it was, I no longer consume it. I don’t eat 100% organic (probably about 90%), but it is close enough that I no longer suffer from the debilitating depression that tormented me, and by extension, my family, for years.
Organic food is more expensive than regular food, but the nice thing about my ‘organic solution’ is that, unlike the drugs, there are no side effects. And the extra money I am spending on organic food is probably equal to that which I would spend on the anti-depressant drugs. I know that the drug companies don’t want to hear about my solution, but I don’t care. I’ve been depression-free for over eight years, and I feel like I can now live a normal life.
Now I know that everyone is different, and what works for me may not work for you, but if you’re reading this, and you suffer from depression, give it a try; go organic and see what happens. Hopefully, you’ll have the same reaction that I did, and you too can finally be free of the depression that has shackled your life for so long.
